He completed his fellowship in Nephrology at the prestigious NYU Grossman School of Medicine, where he developed a strong foundation in managing complex kidney-related conditions. In addition to his nephrology training, Dr. Lao is a certified interventionalist through the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology (ASDIN), a distinction that reflects his advanced proficiency in performing minimally invasive procedures for dialysis access care. He received hands-on, specialized interventional training from two of the field’s most respected pioneers, Drs. Noam Spinowitz and Israel Schur, who helped shape modern endovascular treatment techniques for dialysis vascular access.

Dr. Lao’s Specialties & Expertise
Dr. Lao is highly trained in a variety of minimally invasive procedures to help dialysis patients maintain healthy, working access. He performs angiograms to check and treat problems in AV fistulas and grafts, removes clots with thrombectomy, and manages peritoneal dialysis catheters. He also places and cares for tunneled dialysis catheters when other access is needed. One of his specialties is endovascular fistula creation, a newer, less invasive way to create dialysis access without traditional surgery. Dr. Lao focuses on making these treatments as safe and comfortable as possible while helping patients stay informed and involved in their care.
